It is almost liberating, that 2020 is coming to an end. Then we get the chance to leave pandemics, Brexit and fake news behind. I for one, is looking forward to break in a new year, hopefully with more opportunities and fewer obstacles.

However, we cannot leave everything behind us. The need for thinking sustainably and finding the balance between economic viability, environmental protection and social equity, as the Brundtland report stated 33 years ago: “A sustainable development is a development, which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

In Denmark, for instance, our footprint is 4x higher (Earth Overshoot Day DK 2020: 26 March), than appropriate, given our size, and vi are working diligently to create radical change. But we cannot leave it to activists and charity, to form the change. The rest of us need to chip in. Ordinary people, companies and businesses leaving a footprint from our consumption and general behaviour every day.

That is why, I am happy every day to work for and with people and organisations, who in different ways contribute to this development with a responsible use of the resources we have available, implementation of sustainable energy forms or working for social coherence and radical change of ingrown habits nd processes.

We call it innovation, business development, transformation and many other things. In my little black book I carry a quote from Buckminster Fuller: “To create real change with people, don’t fight the existing, come up with an attractive alternative!” That is our challenge and hopefully we will find more attractive alternatives together.
